Behind my iMac, away from the cameras and lights, is a whiteboard. At the end of December I sit down and plan my goals for the year ahead. for 2025 these include attending more events and trying for more speaking engagements, upgrading my portable microphones, see tarsiers in the wild and it ends with a quote from my favourite Author, Sir Pterry Pratchett - “It’s not worth doing some thing unless you were doing something that someone somewhere would much rather you weren’t doing”.
It’s actually a foreword he wrote to an Encyclopaedia on Fantasy - and that feels kind of apt because the people who were much rather I wasn’t doing something live in a twisted fantasy world of their own.
It started off with Anti-Rainbow hate group Let Kids Be Kids. Readers who have been around a while may recall the piece I did a month or so back on how this group, which tried to demand the Speaker of the House and Christchurch Airport remove pride flags because this group find them offensive, managed to scare and bully a local School out of running a Schools Pride Week Event designed to help offer tools and support to rainbow youth. In it I said when they saw it, they’d call me a pedo or something similar - and their group leader did indeed see it and called me a groomer supporter.
As well as a total lefty shill. They circled the pride flag in my studio as proof doncherknow. For the eagle eyed viewer in the back ground you’ll also find iconic same sex life partners Jay and Silent Bob, Kirk and Spock and a character who transitions every few years or so since the 1960s on the longest running Sci Fi show of all time - I’m sure there’s some symbolism there the be extracted.
